Shaping the Future of Hospitality, Tourism and Innovation with Bournemouth University

Recently, STUDIOOFNEW had the opportunity to collaborate with Bournemouth University on a postgraduate live brief, challenging students to explore how emerging technologies could solve real business problems across hospitality, tourism and organisational management.

What stood out for us most wasn't the technology itself, but the quality of thinking behind it. Working as consultancy teams, students were asked to analyse STUDIOOFNEW as a business and identify opportunities for innovation, growth and impact. The discussions quickly moved beyond digital fashion and into much broader conversations around immersive technology, AI and business transformation.

Students explored how XR could be used to redesign hospitality operations, improve staff training and help organisations visualise challenges before they occur. Others investigated educational travel, proposing shared digital spaces where students, educators and organisers could collaborate before trips, improving communication, safeguarding and risk assessment. Several groups examined the role of AI in forecasting issues, optimising workflows and supporting decision-making, while also raising important questions around ethics, data protection and responsible innovation.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the project was seeing STUDIOOFNEW recognised not simply as a fashion business, but as a technology-driven innovation partner. Students identified opportunities for immersive consultancy, educational platforms, strategic partnerships and industry communities that could help organisations better understand and adopt emerging technologies.

Many of the conversations reflected challenges that already exist across industry today. Businesses often struggle with disconnected systems, manual processes and resistance to change. At the same time, technologies such as XR and AI remain misunderstood despite their growing potential. The students recognised that successful innovation is rarely about the technology alone. It is about people, communication and creating solutions that deliver measurable value.

The experience was a reminder of why collaboration between industry and education is so important. Students brought fresh perspectives, challenged assumptions and asked questions that encouraged deeper reflection on where STUDIOOFNEW is heading next.

The future of innovation will belong to organisations willing to experiment, adapt and think differently. Judging by the ideas presented throughout this project, that future is already being shaped by the next generation.
